PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING (PBL) IN ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: APPLYING INNOVATIVE METHODS FOR HOLISTIC UNDERSTANDING

Abstract

As an innovative learning method, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has garnered attention for its potential to enhance learning effectiveness, particularly within the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study outlines the detailed steps for implementing PBL in PAI and explores its impact on students' understanding of Islamic values. The process begins by identifying Islamic issues relevant to the students' lives, facilitating the formation of collaborative work groups, and guiding students through in-depth research using Islamic sources. An analysis of Islamic values ​​then guides students in formulating solutions that align with religious principles. Group presentations of these solutions not only improve public speaking skills but also foster discussions that enrich students' understanding. An emphasis on personal reflection and evaluation provides a platform for students to assess both the learning process and the solutions generated. Optionally, the implementation of concrete actions adds a practical dimension to the learning experience, enabling students to apply their solutions within the community. Holistic assessment encompasses conceptual understanding, collaborative skills, presentation creativity, and personal reflection. Research findings indicate that PBL in PAI not only improves the understanding of Islamic values ​​but also strengthens students' critical thinking and social skills. The study's implications stimulate critical thought and debate regarding the effectiveness of PBL in connecting Islamic teachings with students' daily lives.
